Wastewater treatment is the process by which physical, chemical and biological contaminations are removed from raw sewage so as to provide environmentally safe water and environmental beneficial solid waste (such as fertilisers).
It encompasses a series of steps; filtration to remove large objects, primary treatment to remove fats and grease and secondary treatment to degrade the biological components.
Wastewater treatment plants offer a range of health hazards from the risk of oxygen depletion and toxic gases in the sewers or flammable to chemical hazards in the treatment proceses.
Sensors destined for this application need to be able to withstand the challenging environment; SGX Sensortech gas sensors are ideally suited to cope with the humid and dirty environments typically encountered.
